Next phase of work will mean Newquay line closed 18 November to 1 December

GWR train on edge of Newquay

Hot on the heels of the restoration of the second platform at Newquay station, the next phase of the Mid Cornwall Metro project is to lay new track so trains can reach the restored platform.

This work will take place from Monday 18 November to Sunday 1 December 2024. During this time, buses will replace trains and run from St Austell to Newquay. Most replacement buses will not call at Par. Online journey planners have been updated, and there will be on board announcements, station posters, and traditional and social media in the run-up to let passengers know. Full information on the works is available at www.gwr.com/upgrade.

Please note that some car park spaces at Newquay station will remain unavailable until Friday 20 December to create an area for Network Rail’s site compound.

The track work is the next step towards providing an hourly train service on the Newquay-Par line, to be introduced in summer 2025 as part of the Mid Cornwall Metro project.

The project will then go on to deliver through trains between Newquay and St Austell, Truro, Penryn and Falmouth, starting in 2026. Visit the homepage to find out more.
